Our First day of Aquanaut training was both exciting and intense. We started out by meeting all Aquarius, Navy, and support staff at Mission Control. There are so many people behind the scenes helping to make Mission 31 possible. We also met up with the two Aquanauts that will be saturating with Fabian for the first half of Mission 31. Andy Shantz and Adam Zenone are both FIU students who will be doing some really cool science with in Aquarius. Fun fact: Andy and I worked together in Mo'orea French Polynesia when Andy was a Three Seas student about 5 years ago!
The first portion of Aquanaut training is the swim test. Aquarius staff brought is to the local pool for a 400m swim, 25m underwater swim, 10 minute tred, and mask don and ditch. I was very relieved to get over the swim test. Even though I had practiced, I would have liked to get a few more practice swims in before the real thing!
After the swim test we did our checkout dive. It was so great to get in the almost 80 degree water after the 50 degree water in Nahant MA!

After a run to the grocery store, we went to the Mission 31 house to get some work done. I found a pretty excellent place to call my office for a few house! We ended the evening with dinner at the local Island Grill. It was a great time to reflect on the day, and get to know the rest of the team
In all Training Day #1 was busy but fun. I'm looking forward to the next two weeks, especially tomorrow's Diving Helmet training!
