My journey to Florida began after about 48 hours of unpacking from Washington, repacking for Mission 31, and squeezing as much Alex and family time as possible. I found out I was going to be an aquanaut only a week before training began! That week was full of paperwork, planes, and packing.
On Sunday morning, I boarded a Boston plane to Miami. Fellow aquanaut Grace Young and I met Fabien Cousteau plus his seven cases of equipment and filming gear at baggage claim! We then met up with Mission diver Billy Snook from Washington, and photographer Kip Evans from California.
A couple of hours in Costco, Thai lunch, and a drive late, we arrived in Islamorada, Florida.
We met up with most of the other Mission 31 team- cameraman and DP Matt Ferraro, his wife and fellow photographer Carrie Vonderhaar, cameraman Brian Hall, producer Marc Ostrick, editor Toby Wallwork, and mission coordinator Saul Rosser. We have a special guest- official Mission 31 dog Sam! We got to know each other over pizza before crashing after a very long travel day.
